GST FAQ
Frequently asked questions about GST compliance, tax rates, and filing.
Which GST Rates Are Available?
ZentBill supports all standard GST rates: 0% (exempt), 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. You can also configure cess if applicable. Each product and service can have its own GST rate. When you create an invoice, the tax is calculated automatically based on the items added.
When is CGST/SGST vs IGST Applied?
This is determined by the states of the seller and buyer. If your company state and the customer's state are the same (intra-state), CGST and SGST are applied (each at half the GST rate). If the states are different (inter-state), IGST is applied at the full rate. ZentBill determines this automatically based on your company settings and the customer's state.
Does ZentBill Support the Composition Scheme?
Yes. If you're registered under the GST composition scheme, enable it in Settings > Company Settings. This adjusts your tax calculations and invoice format to comply with composition scheme rules. Under composition, you charge a flat rate and cannot collect tax from customers.
What Are HSN and SAC Codes?
HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) codes classify goods, while SAC (Services Accounting Code) codes classify services. These codes determine the applicable GST rate and are required on invoices for GST compliance. You can find HSN/SAC codes for your items on the CBIC website or ask your accountant.
