What is a GRN?
A Goods Receipt Note (GRN) records the physical receipt of goods from a supplier. It verifies what was actually received against what was ordered, and updates your stock levels accordingly.
Creating a GRN
To record received goods:
- 1Go to Purchases > GRN from the sidebar (or click 'Create GRN' from a Purchase Order)
- 2Select the supplier and optionally link to a Purchase Order
- 3For each item, enter the quantity actually received
- 4Note any discrepancies (short deliveries or excess)
- 5Add the supplier's invoice/challan number for reference
- 6Click 'Save' to confirm receipt and update stock
Warning:Once a GRN is confirmed, the stock quantities are updated immediately. Double-check quantities before saving.
GRN to Purchase Invoice
After confirming a GRN, you can create a Purchase Invoice from it. This links the goods received to the financial obligation, ensuring your accounts payable are accurate. Click 'Create Invoice' from the GRN detail page to auto-populate the invoice.
